Size: about 3" (range 2.5" to 4") Element: Earth Drops: Wool and hide.
Behavior: Woolies are generally extremely docile and easily befriended. They typically possess animal-level intelligence, but are very expressive and empathetic. Will approach people who seem unthreatening, and run from those who seem dangerous. May fight back if attacked. The woolies that live in the meadows surrounding the village are gregarious and unassuming, and may wander into town unprompted.
Powers/Attacks: Kicks and headbutts. Some woolies are surprisingly strong, capable of throwing grown men.
Taming: Very easily tamed - the most docile woolies can simply be coaxed to their new home with a gentle tone of voice. Can be sheared for wool, which grows back every three days.
Size: 6" at the shoulder (range 5.5" to 6.5") Element: Neutral Drops: Fur, hide, and horns.
Behavior: They're wild cattle. Big, heavy grazers, dangerous if startled, a bit more intelligent than actual cows but still not very astute. Tend to prefer fight over flight, and if angered, a buffamoo will stampede until its target is out of sight. Buffamoo dislike things they are unfamiliar with, and are less likely to startle and attack if they are used to humans - those that live closer to the village are more docile than those that live further out.
Powers/Attacks: Kicks, stomps, and head-on charges. Buffamoo are not particularly vicious, but they are capable of dealing serious damage thanks to their size and musculature. Their horns can easily deliver fatal gorings, and their jaws can take off a careless finger or two.
Taming: Buffamoo are only slightly less docile than woolies, but they are much more prone to attacking rather than running away if approached incorrectly. They require a gentle disposition and offerings of food, preferably fruit or flowers. Can be milked daily. Also useful as draft animals, and can pull or carry very heavy loads.

Size: 3" end to end (range 2" to 3.5") Element: Earth Drops: Insect jaws (very sharp and sturdy), insect hide (blade-resistant armor)
Behavior: Giant vicious hideous ants. They do what ants do, except they also bite fingers off. Peaceful passersby can go by without interference, but people who cause disturbances or take edible resources within the vicinity of an ant nest can expect to face some territorial ant wrath.
Powers/Attacks: Vicious bites from sharp mandibles, and thin jets of acidic poison from glands beneath them. Ants can shoot poison at a distance of up to ten feet. They have hard exoskeletons that repel sharp attacks - only their joints are vulnerable to blades.
Taming: Very difficult to tame due to their devotion to a nest. The easiest ants to tame are those that have just emerged from a gate, and the easiest way to tame them is by offering them food. Emotional appeals are largely worthless to an ant's utilitarian mind. Once tamed, they are very obedient as long as they are supplied with food, and can perform tasks such as weeding or harvesting crops with their sharp, precise jaws.
Size: 5.5" (range 5" to 6") Element: Earth Drops: Cheap cloth, bandages, small jars of glue, small stone knives, wooden clubs, and a kind of medallion known as Proof of Warrior. (Proofs of Warrior are popular symbols of strength in the local lore, as library books can tell you, and carrying enough of them around can frighten off social monsters like orcs and goblins.)
Behavior: Orcs, though not as intelligent as humans, are sapient and social. They make their own tools and weapons, and some orc tribes have even produced distinctive styles of cuisine that are enjoyed by humans. Orcs are naturally rather aggressive and quick to attack, but can usually be reasoned with, or at least threatened into retreat, as they are just intelligent enough to understand when a battle is futile. "Civilized" orcs - those that have not just emerged from the Forest of Beginnings - are wary, inquisitive creatures, and may approach humans to steal or attempt to bargain for human equipment, which is generally superior to the tools crafted by orcs. They are easily tricked, and most orcs are not perceptive enough to work out plans with more than three steps.
Powers/Attacks: Orcs carry rudimentary clubs and maces that they use to beat their enemy about the head and torso...or whatever else they can reach. Blunt strikes are their main method of attack, but they can punch, kick, and bite if they're disarmed.
Taming: Easy enough to befriend, with the right attitude, but taming one away from its troop is much more difficult. Orcs can be made allies through gifts and services rendered, or can be pressed into obedience by intimidation (though this method is risky for what should be obvious reasons.) Wild orcs that don't have a troop, or those that aren't very attached to their home for whatever reason, can be tamed with emotional appeals or an agreement to provide food and shelter. Orcs can perform many of the same tasks that a human laborer would be able to, including lifting and carrying objects, destroying boulders and stumps, watering crops, or guarding property. Tamed orcs make good adventuring companions, and enjoy fighting and triumphing over other monsters.
